Corporate Events

Corporate events bring people together in many ways. While each type has its own set of considerations, some apply universally.

1. The company needs to be clear and realistic about its objectives. Case in point: a big product launch of a poorly designed product not selling well (because it is not designed well) as an example of what NOT to do.

2. Assuming that the event is a logical outgrowth of your company's goals and objectives, is the benefit worth the cost?

3. The event should be planned with sensitivity towards the feelings of the guests. The stereotypical example is the company who holds a lavish holiday party for its employees as it is downsizing. And, yes, it does happen.

No single event, no matter how well executed, will cure serious organizational or morale problems. But as someone who has spent many years in the corporate world, I can attest to the benefit of a well organized employee appreciation event.

Many of the points described here apply equally to corporate events as they do to social events.

Some common types of corporate events:
Employee appreciation such as company picnics and holiday parties, client appreciation, supplier appreciation, awards dinners, events to bring suppliers and staff together, public awareness, product launches, brand-name recognition, milestones such as the company's 50th year anniversary.
