Contracts for Party Decoration and Related Services
RK: When the client comes in there is no obligation. This is a first time blush, they can all the questions or they can ask no questions.Sometimes they don’t have questions.
What we do do is we go through the initial proposal. We do (a contract) if they would like to book the date with us, not what they’ve received in the proposal, because we know the proposal is going to have changes. What we ask for is four or five hundred dollars as a down payment. Meaning we are doing your event on that day.
From there as we’ve made all of our changes and come up with finally what we are going to do, what we’ll do is halfway through it, x amount of weeks out, we ask for half of the event. The full event to be paid seven days prior to (the event). It’s really one week.
EMZ: Right.
RK: And it can be done by credit card, check, or certified check.
EMZ: OK.
RK: Normally we don’t use certified checks. We’ve never had a problem with a client.
Party Decoration: How to Find a Special Events Decorator
RK: People find us because we are on recommended lists. Word of mouth is tremendous... Caterers, catering facilities..We do advertise, but we find that the major advertising we have done has not brought in the clients word of mouth works and so do recommendations from the catering and sales departments from different facilities.
EMZ: So, I guess taking this one step further, if you were advising someone where to find someone who offers party decoration and other services and other services you can provide, you would recommend asking around to caterers, facilities, etc?
RK: 90% of the clients who book a wedding or a party or whatever will ask the facility for a recommendation list. Who do they recommend for a photographer, who do they recommend for a band, who do they recommend for a florist...
We will be asked who do we recommend for a band? who do we recommend for a photographer? Who do you recommend for, or where would we go for invitations? Where would we go for an unusual wedding cake? or something that’s fabulous or different?
That’s how 90% of our work is generated.
Reputation, upright, working well with clients, going into a facility, cleaning up your mess when you leave, communication with them, good working relationships with the facility.
EMZ: Thank you Richard. It was a pleasure talking to you.
